The new adventure, or rather “The Mission” by Fernando Alonso it has already started with the Aston Martin team until 2023. The Asturian drove his first laps with the AMR22, this season’s car, at the Yas Marina circuit in this morning Abu Dhabi, and prepare for the next year.
Alonso started practice early in the morning in Abu Dhabi and will have all morning to test the car they started with Lance Stroll and Sebastian Vettel this year without too many joys. In fact, the team ended the Constructors’ Championship in a disappointing seventh place.
Although these kilometers will not help him much on a sporting level since the 2023 car is under development and will be radically different, Alonso will be able to share some details with his new team about the seat, the steering wheel or other elements that will his comfort improve in the car.
Likewise, you can get to know the members of the team with whom you will live for the next two seasons. Among them is the new team ambassador, Pedro Martínez de la Rosawho traveled to Abu Dhabi to witness Alonso’s first training session with Aston Martin and also find out what his new team will be like.
Alonso has been wearing black overalls and there is no sponsor visible on the car either, something indicating he has one Contract with Team Alpine until December 31, 2022. For the same reason, he wears a camouflage helmet, the same one he wore in other “unofficial” tests with McLaren in late 2006 or with Ferrari in late 2009.
In addition to Alonso, other drivers who are changing teams are taking part in the Abu Dhabi test with their new teams, such as Logan Sargeant with Williams, Nyck de Vries with Alpha Tauri, Pierre Gasly with Alpine or Oscar Piastri with McLaren.
These training courses are aimed at Tire test 2023 and also for young drivers (that’s why two cars are used) and as we see every opportunity is good to think about the next year.
